This is my first tutorial so let me know if it's easy to understand or not.
Here's a shopping list:
Embroidery thread [link]
PVC pipe [link]
Tacky glue [link]
couldn't find the trim online...

You make them look like a modern hair accessory. I'm surprised girls haven't done this before!

Thanks so much for this tutorial! I did things a little differently (read: lazy) but I appreciate the addition of how to hold the tubes on your hair. My daughter is going out as Korra this year, and her hair is thick, but very fine. The rubber band trick is GREAT!

This was great! Thank you! Only problem I'm having is getting my hair through them. Do you have a trick that you use? I have moderately thick hair, and it just doesn't want to cooperate.

I use the same method thats at the end of the tutorial except without the rubber band. Braid and slip through the pipe and then unbraid the bottom end.

actually, i figured out you can get a less bulky hair piece by only using the embroidery thread. Remember those hair wraps with embroidery thread as a kid? I did that with white and blue thread on that one section of my hair for her pieces instead ^_^ saved some $$ lol

This is a great tutorial! I wonder if you could buy PVC pipe that had a smaller diameter, or if you would have to find some other sort of pipe/tube? I think I would try to make them smaller. But this is an incredibly useful tutorial! Thanks for the tips!! :D

Oh, and I wonder what it would look like if you used a thicker thread, to try and make it look like the thing was made of string? It's unclear on the show what exactly that material is..

Thanks for making this! A few questions:
How well does the pony tail ornament keep your hair up? How long did you make it? Is it comfortable? How do you thread it through your hair?
Thanks so much!

1. They work really well on me as you can see in my pic, so i think you'll be fine.

2. Mine are about 3 inches.

3. You wont even feel the, unless they are slipping in which case they can become annoying so make sure to secure them well.

4.Braid up your hair and slide them on and then unbraid the part of your hair beneath the ornament.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
